I'm about to set up another blog for the purpose of blogging my next book for grown-ups, rather in the way Dickens, and many Victorian authors proceeded, i.e. publishing a chapter at a time from their latest work in progress, and then, at a later date, publishing the entire work. I'm wondering if you think there might be any interest shown, and I'd be grateful for your opinion. The fact that a publisher wouldn't then take on the work is not an issue for me, for having already published four children's books, and about to publish the fifth, this presents no problem, but it might lead to a wider audience for my writing now that I'm branching out into fiction for adults. I'd love to have your opinion. I'm
thinking of following up a suggestion, setting it up by
subscription with free eBooks of the finished novel. Hope there's
sufficient interest.

Hi Carole,
I think that if there is any reason to do this, it's to motivate yourself to keep producing that new chapter. In my opinion, you should not worry about whether there is outside interest or not. If you DO get interest, it's a bonus to something you already enjoy doing, yes? I say do it. Especially if it's going to keep your spirits high!
But try not to worry if people are reading it or not. I've been there and it makes you miserable. You get one comment and you're excited, but then you want more. And more. And more, and then it's never enough. If you can find fulfillment in the process, rather than the outcome, then you'll do great!
Cheers,
Jessica

How very sensible of you Jessica, so very kind of you to comment, I shall set this up, once I know what I'm doing! Much Love, Carole xx
Hi, Carole!
I don't know if you're keeping up with self-published ebooks on Amazon, but many indie authors are publishing short "series" books, 1-2 chapters per month, and selling them for 99 cents.
RaShelle Workman is one such example with her "Blood and Snow" series, and she's doing quite well with it.
It's just an idea you might consider.
All best,
<3
Leigh, thank you so much for your kind suggestion. I'll take a look!
Hi Carole. I haven't tried this website myself but there are some writing communities where people publish a chapter at a time and others read and like or vote on that chapter. I wish I could remember what the website I'm thinking of is called - ah yes, Wattpad, I think. That might be a cool thing to check out, too.
Thanks, Jayne, I shall definitely take a look. Thank you for you kind help and I see there is a comment by Margaret Atwood, wonderful author, so a high recommendation indeed!! x
I agree with Jessica. Let the joy of writing each chapter give you motivation to carry on. I believe because you love writing and telling stories, readers can't help but respond by telling others what a great story it is.
This had been a great experience, Joylene, trying to sort this out and receiving support from so many people, and yes, your are right, I'll enjoy the writing, whatever the outcome. :0)
I agree posting as you go can be motivating if you tend to write a fairly good first draft. It does of course make it more difficult to radically alter the story and sometimes radical alteration can be necessary. Anyway good luck with it!
I don't like to read a chapter and then have to stop and wait for the arrival of another, so I'm not a big fan of serialized books, but I know there are others who are. As Nicky says, you risk putting out an early draft that may not be what it could be after editorial advice and revisions, and I'm not sure how you handle that.
I know how well you write children's books, Carole Anne, and I have no doubt that your adult one will be equally good. I'll be waiting to buy it when it's released in its totality. :)
Yes, Nicky, that is something that worries me too, but I'll press on and see what happens. I work better under pressure. :0)
Thanks, Carol, I hope the book will eventually live up to your expectations. :0)
I think your writing will always attract outside interest. Just write the best book you can and the rest will follow!
