| On the Cobb, Lyme Regis. |
Yesterday was so amazing, the sun actually shone
all day. Throckmorton Hall had such wonderful Elizabethan knot gardens, but the house was somewhat disappointing for my purpose of historical research.
The exterior was little touched, but inside only the bare bones of the Tudor
house could be glimpsed because as each generation added their own furniture
and decoration the clean simple lines of the property were lost under a heap of
unattractive and often gaudy objects.
The Throckmorton visit was
especially good as our holiday was rained off and we came home several days
early before the need of a lifeboat to rescue us. The only memorable day was
our re-visit to Buckfast Abbey. So peaceful.
But we did manage to visit Lyme
Regis, the scene where some Jane Austin books were set, and we ate ice cream in
the rain and giggled a great deal.

What a coincedence, I've just read Rosalind Adams blog about a view from her hotel window in sunny Lyme Regis. She hasn't said when she was there.
Having left temperature behind in the USA of 99F on Tuesday the UK weather is a bit of a shock.
Sorry you were disappointed with Throckmorton Hall.
Yes, it was a coincidence! Lucky you, I visit my friend in Atlanta from time to time, do love being there, and those Crispy Cremes...
I like the sounds of that: giggling and eating ice-cream in the rain. Just hearing that lifts my spirits. Happy researching, Carole Anne.
It sounds like you had a wonderful time. :)
Can't fail to be cheerful with such a husband, Joylene.
Yes, despite the floods and being in a wood with constantly dripping leaves, we laughed a great deal, G.E.
Sounds like a lovely time. It's always disappointing when there's a place you always wanted to visit and it doesn't live up to expectations.
Have a great weekend!
:-)
Thanks, Misha, have been in bed with flu for the last week, but crawled out to use the laptop today. :0)
Sounds like a story in itself, Carole Anne! Glad to hear you got home safe and sound :-)
It was a near thing, Deniz, but thank goodness we have a wonderful relationship and the worse the weather became the more we laughed. :0)
